Thanksgiving “S01 E02 Flesh & Blood.” It’s Thanksgiving and Kimberely relives turkey day with the memory of her mom’s slaying. Now she suffers from agoraphobia but her dad tries his best to look after her. A Thanksgiving movie from Into the Dark anthology series called “Flesh & Blood”. If you’re looking for a family-friendly show to put on with your kids while you eat Turkey, this is not the movie for you. Into the Dark horror, movie episodes drop once a month for twelve months. They concentrate on holidays and are themed around Christmas and New Year, and School Spirit Week plugging messaging and societal dilemmas as they chug along.
Flesh & Blood Thanksgiving Movie (Into the Dark)
The second installment for the anthology series Into the Dark is entirely predictable, just as the first was. Being predictable is not a bad thing though. Sometimes the underlying narrative is enough to keep the tension alive while also showcasing a theme or human condition. For me, that’s more important than being given a surprise or climactic ending as an ethos that plays on your mind. Surely, most of the movies and stories that stick with you are the ones that make you root for a certain ending. A character’s fate destined for a particular ending is far more interesting. Then you get to wonder how they will arrive at their intended outcome.
In this tale centered around Thanksgiving, Kimberley is shown to be in the throes of an event so jarring that she has fallen victim to agoraphobia. She is unable to bring herself to perform the simple task of stepping out of her front door. She’s unable to attend school and instead undertakes therapy at home while completing schoolwork remotely.
As the story continues for Into the Dark’s Flesh and Blood movie, Kimberley shows no sign of wanting to acknowledge her mother’s death the previous Thanksgiving. The days slowly encroach upon the anniversary of her death and the police are no closer to finding the person who killed her. First, of all, clues begin to point to aspects of her hometown she’s overlooked all this time.
Flesh and Blood Cast
Without giving away any spoilers, it’s the casting that truly shone here. Just as Wilkes could not have been played by anyone else in The Body, Dermot Mulroney is the perfect dad character. Here, he is Henry, a widowed father who will do anything for his daughter.
For Silver, Kimberley is her debut feature role after some modeling with IMG. Her character fills the screen with angst and attitude. She’s perfect for horror and dark-themed cinema and shines in her performance in this installment of the Into the Dark series.
Overall, this is a solid anthology Thanksgiving horror movie episode. It paves the way for the subsequent Christmas horror movie release in December 2018 (Pooka!).
