Sweetie You Won't Believe It Directed by Yernar Nurgaliyev

“Sweetie, You Won’t Believe It” has captured the hearts of countless movie enthusiasts, including myself. This brilliant independent feature film delves into the subtle intricacies of a common occurrence: husbands resorting to a harmless fib about going “fishing.” A pastime men are known for. Especially when tensions arise with their expecting wives.

While it is important to acknowledge that some men genuinely enjoy the angler’s pursuit, I am referring to those instances where a clever diversion is employed. One such memorable occasion unfolds in the free-to-watch Sweetie You Won’t Believe It, as Dastan, amidst a heated argument with his pregnant spouse, swiftly summons his closest companions. Then he hastily departs from his house and embarks on a journey to an undisclosed location – all in the spirit of honoring time-tested masculine customs.

“It’s time for women to realize that fishing is something sacred to men. It is not only booze, grills and nature-it has a much deeper meaning.”

Must See Horror Movies

In the face of a televised report highlighting the disappearance of multiple women near a renowned fishing spot, Dastan remains resolute in his pursuit of utmost masculinity. While his wife urges him to choose a name for their future daughter and a female creditor questions his manhood due to his debt, Dastan steadfastly maintains his independence. He and his friends are “going fishing.”

The movie hastily proceeds as Dastan’s friends turn up in a van full of blow-up dolls. Not only that, there are various other sex toy propaganda bobbing about in the back. The three men have never fished before. Dastan expresses his certainty that they will quickly learn the art of fishing, while Arman sets the mood by playing upbeat music that sets the tone for their adventurous journey.

Like a Horror Version of The Hangover Movie

In the vein of “The Hangover”, their trip is bumpy from the start. In The Hangover Doug, Phil, Stu, and Alan find teeth missing, a baby in a closet, a tiger in their hotel room, and various other pieces of evidence of their misadventures. By the end of this high-energy chaotic tale, Dastan, Arman, and Murat also have one hell of a story to tell. Blending horror and comedy is no easy feat. And where The Hangover leaves any type of pure unadulterated horror elements out, “Sweetie, You Won’t Believe It” seamlessly introduces it with ingenious flair.

In many cases, I am highly suspect of films with too many writers, deeming them a disaster waiting to happen. Here, there are five writers with their fingers on the trigger. Sweetie, You Won’t Believe it has survived this suspicion and the title has not had any detriment against the overall result.

The soundtrack for Sweetie You Won’t Believe It is truly exceptional, showcasing a plethora of original music. The film is an absolute joyride, effortlessly blending elements of outrageous fun with a nostalgic homage to 80s-inspired Russian Last Chance horror movies. Every aspect of the narrative, including the introduction of the menacing antagonists, is executed with a vibrant energy that beautifully juxtaposes their murderous intentions. As the paths of the unlikely trio of friends and their perilous adversaries clash, chaos ensues. And it all leads to a thrilling and action-packed climax. Furthermore, the film pays subtle yet brilliant tribute to numerous Western horror classics, making it an absolute treat for genre enthusiasts.

Sweetie, You Won’t Believe It is a ridiculous and violent film. It’s also a treasure trove of brilliantly hilarious accidental happenstance that you won’t be able to take your eyes off for a second. If you’re not crying tears of laughter, you’re not paying attention.
