Slapped! The Movie - Poster

“Slapped! The Movie” is currently available on Amazon Prime. If you enjoy films categorized as ‘dumb’ and featuring ‘stupid’ humor, this indie movie might just be the perfect fit for you. Director Alex Magaña, who also stars in the film alongside Matt Lowe, portrays a character who shares his name. The duo, best friends and colleagues, encounter a magical transient who mysteriously causes them to switch bodies with a slap to the face.

Gross Out Humour

Just because these two guys are dick and jizz obsessed they probably spent the whole time filming in fits of laughter. No wait, I mean just because these guys are obsessed with scenes where there is jizz on people’s faces, doesn’t mean they aren’t good filmmakers. The movie is expertly crafted, surpassing the standard of most low-budget productions. Despite the fixation on crude humor, the filmmakers’ dedication to their vision is evident. Their unorthodox approach may raise eyebrows, but it undeniably makes a bold statement. For those who enjoy the gross-out humor that this film dishes out, it just can’t help itself. This film has a wider audience than I am personally giving it credit for.

The tonal shifts in “Slapped! 2018” are quite peculiar, as they seem to draw inspiration from various styles of movies and television. There are elements such as applause effects following jokes, black-and-white dream sequences, references to other comedies, and indications of adult content. Despite my hopes for a funnier experience than the trailer suggested, I left with the impression that all the best jokes were already shown in the trailer.

The movie “Slapped!” is unabashedly explicit, and that’s just fine by me. Consider yourself forewarned: don’t anticipate sophisticated humor. I had to split the viewing into two sessions, partly due to its length and partly out of curiosity to see how it would conclude. Surprisingly, beneath the film’s juvenile jokes, there is a compelling storyline that kept me engaged until the end. It does make a valid point.

Other Body Swap Movies

My top pick for a body swap movie is the timeless classic “Dream a Little Dream” featuring Corey Feldman. The way he exchanges bodies with Jason Robards is truly remarkable. It’s evident that the swapping is seamless when they exchange glances upon reverting and need to confirm, “Are you, you?” The uncertainty is palpable, extending to the characters themselves.

Performances in the opening scenes could have been enhanced by infusing Matt and Alex with more distinctive personality traits and gestures. The lack of overt differences between them after swapping bodies made it difficult to perceive the change. The run time, as well, is a total killjoy. It’s almost two hours. Like shit, unless you’re someone like Hong-jin Na who directed “The Wailing“, or Francis Ford Coppola, of “The Godfather” then you have no business making movies this effing long.

Overall though, the sentiment for this one is clear and I didn’t completely hate Slapped 2018.

Slapped! 2018 Trailer

The trailer is exceptionally well-crafted, evoking frequent laughter during its viewing. The concept of an overweight individual exchanging bodies with a health-conscious and active person is compelling. The idea is also a good one borne off the back of decades of body swap movies. Picture ” Freaky” or “The Hot Chick” and you might get an idea of where Slapped! is going.

Just because my funny movies aren’t your funny movies doesn’t make it wrong, it just makes it different.
