Red Billabong (2024) An Australian Creature Feature With A Killer Bunyip
Red Billabong (2014) is director Luke Sparke’s debut feature film & shows just how far you can stretch a budget. His second film is Occupation (2018.)
Creature Features revel in the chaos of nature gone wild. Whether it’s prehistoric predators revived in Jurassic Park, genetically engineered nightmares in Anaconda, or the gleefully over-the-top swarms in Eight-Legged Freaks, these films push humans to their limits against monsters both imagined and real. They tap into our ancient fears of the dark woods, the deep ocean, and the unseen dangers lurking in the natural world. Some are terrifying (The Descent), some campy (Sharknado), and some heartbreaking (Jaws still makes us hesitate at the beach). Either way, they remind us that humanity’s grip on “top of the food chain” is fragile at best.
