Movie poster Myth starring Channel Zero's Nicholas Tucci

Small-town Alex meets his filmmaking idol, JP. What begins as a geek meets hero pipedream, turns into a tense and gritty scenario as Alex discovers the rhetoric of “never meet your heroes” applies almost every time. Myth is essentially a vampire movie.

JP is all out of ideas, and inspiration, and get up and go. His producer is about to get up and leave. He meets Alex, instantaneously rescuing him from his own misfortune. JP immediately sparks an idea with his fresh-faced protege. He’s vibrant, unknowing, and brimming with ideas and unfulfilled desires. The perfect fodder for the basis of a narrative. The result is just as you would expect when a vampire meets a virgin with no acclimation to the danger they are in.

Similarly, like other movies that form the basis of filmmakers being filmed, Myth encapsulates the theory that a director’s job is to manipulate the characters to fit the story they are in. Like the 2015 TV series Unreal or 2019’s Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, the person pulling the strings on what is happening on screen is also telling the story. In Myth, JP’s idea requires him to create the circumstances for his cast. Subsequently, he uses Alex’s life to create his newest film.

Nicholas Tuuci is best known for his role in the horror series Channel Zero as Jason. He was also in a film Mother of Movies covered last year, Long Lost. And he starred in the smash horror movie hit, You’re Next. Justin Andrew Scott (She Came to the Woods), Sadie Scott (Law and Order SVU), Alex Beechko (3-2-1), and Connor Dylan (Inner City Rats) also star in this psychological thriller.

Myth Movie Review

Brian DiLorenzo’s directorial debut is the type of narrative I’m always drawn to. Where the protagonist tells a story and finds himself in the reality of his dreams. The classic notion of a coming-of-age idea wedged into what happens when those dreams come true.

This type of story might seem predictable. However, like any car crash, you simply can’t look away. How far do deception and manipulation go? As Alex uncovers what lies beneath JP’s agenda, the question remains. By the same token, how much does anyone really know about their so-called ‘idols.’

Myth is a great first movie from DiLorenzo and speaks to anyone interested in filmmaking or even just creating on a few different levels. While the overall film never truly hits any gut-punching lows or surprises that take your breath away, It’s a memorable 89 minutes that will leave you satisfied you’ve had your dose of vampiric behavior for the day.
