There are plenty of Netflix tech thriller movies but one of my favorite movie gems has to be the “Cam” movie. Cam is definitely a solid entry for a social media horror. What’s more, I would recommend it as a must-see movie on the Netflix platform.
The story follows Alice, a camgirl with goals to achieve.
Cam, a slick horror and drama movie lives in the seedy underbelly of ‘weird and demeaning things people will do for online notoriety.” Here the desperation to climb the popularity ladder oozes out of every orifice in the pursuit of breaking the top 50 as part of an online world as a camgirl.
Being a successful camgirl takes a lot of effort. Obsessed with emulating the success of her peers, Alice (Madeline Brewer) makes content that is unique enough to have a healthy number of loyal followers. With her stage name of Lola, she takes her online persona into the dark side. Alice likes to simulate suicidal acts and finds herself creeping upward in popularity. People want to see Lola die.
CAM: A Tense and Disturbing Thriller
In the evil tech horror movie “Cam,” Alice, wakes up one morning only to discover that she has been locked out of her own online channel. To her shock, she realizes that her identity has been stolen. Not only has her livelihood come under fire but it seems to be by someone who not only resembles her but also excels in living the life she once had. The tension escalates as Alice is forced to watch this imposter thrive. Not only that but they are stealing her spotlight and leaving her powerless.
As the doppelganger not only invades Alice’s online persona but also encroaches upon her personal life. The story takes a sharp swing with a disturbing turn. The film reflects the unsettling reality of the digital age. One where your online presence can be manipulated and controlled by others.
Low Budget Tech Thrillers
With a modest budget of just $1 million, “Cam” manages to deliver a multifaceted mystery that is brilliant to watch unfold. The core of the movie revolves around the question: Who is behind this malicious act that has thrown Alice’s life into chaos?
In a world filled with countless suspects, the movie keeps you guessing until the end. Even if you have an idea of where the story might be going, the solid writing and execution ensure your satisfaction throughout the entire film.
Don’t miss out on “Cam,” a thrilling and thought-provoking movie that explores the dark side of identity theft and the consequences of living in a hyper-connected world.
