First of all, I have to admit, thinking about Glorious after having watched it leads me to believe I liked this Lovecraftian-inspired title more than I thought I did. If you ever wanted to watch a movie about a guy trapped in a public restroom by a deity then Glorious has you covered. For a film about a man who wakes up hungover and ends up talking to an unseen person in a locked stall, Glorious is actually the best of them. Having said that, it took me three attempts to watch this film in full.
There is just something not that fun about a movie that is 70% conversation. Granted there has been a handful of movies that were successful in their endeavor. A Marriage Story comes to mind as well as a recent independent feature film called Revealer (despite myself not being a fan.) Glorious is a fever dream on the surface of a good story. A thinking person’s psychedelic horror movie if you will. If you’re well-versed in religion there will be plenty more to hone in on than perhaps I did (I googled a lot while watching.) Fortunately, the other 30% of Glorious is mostly gore and blood spatter.
Glorious Day
The story follows an in-depth journey into the life of Wes. There’s nothing immediately sinister about Wes and his breakup with the love of his life. He does what many people do and empties a bottle of whiskey down his throat, lights a nice fire, takes his pants off, and gets very very messy. In the early morning, he runs to the restroom and touches so much of the toilet he may as well have stuck his head in it.
While I was sidetracked about a recent conversation with some cinephiles about pet hates in films (that being one of them) a voice in the next stall told him he could list the number of germs he has on him and what percentage of them came from where.
The door to the stall is locked and Ghat’s (J.K Simmons) thunderous echoing timbre demands that Wes shall not gaze upon him. Ever. What’s more, the cubicle Wes was just in has a glory hole surrounded by an extravagant mural that just begs to be explained. What does it all mean?
The Universe Has a Favor to Ask
The beauty of Glorious is that by the time you realize the narrative has a point, there is not a lot happening. Just a God and a man chewing the fat about the universe and whatnot. Never mind the pink neon light that overshadows practically everything the whole way along. Or the slimy residue that Wes touches as it seeps from in between the crack of the door Ghat is in. It’s the philosophy in the script and the humor that makes this special. And it actually gives you something to think about long after the credits have rolled.
Ghat tells Wes;
The universe has a favor to ask. Only he can save the world.
Quote from the Glorious movie
It didn’t immediately make sense to me straight after I watched it. Two days later the penny dropped. It’s that kind of film.

Glorious 2022 Explained
The Glorious Movie Explained
What Happens At the End of the Movie, Glorious?
My explanation and theory behind Glorious are that Ghat is actually a devil or a similarly affected murderer who has been confined to hell on Earth. He says to him that he will not be a hero for saving the world. Because of his misdeeds, he will not be getting the glory.
The ending of the Glorious movie has one last flashback. In it, Wes is seen with his girlfriend at home. Brenda opens a box to find photos of women in various stages of duress. She balks. She stares at Wes incredulously realizing that Wes has a dark secret. Perhaps a dark passenger he has tucked aside in favor of love. But now that Brenda knows his secret I think Wes then killed her. We are shown Brenda with blood on her where he is also asked to cut by Ghat.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the ending. HMU on the Mother of Movies Facebook page under the posted review.
