Sawed Off: A Groundhog Day Meets The Evil Dead Horror Movie

Let me share with you my captivating experience of discovering Moorehead and Benson’s mind-bending masterpiece, The Endless. Sawed Off is also a time-loop narrative. It’s safe to say, this is obviously not as subtle as the aforementioned classic. Now, let me tell you about Sawed Off. Despite its unassuming title, Sawed Off delivers a unique blend of horror and a cyclical, repetitive scenario. Picture “The Evil Dead” meets “Groundhog Day”, but with a twist that sets it apart.

“Sawed Off” is a film that exudes unwavering enthusiasm. With its entertaining moments and a storyline that is able to be followed effortlessly. This movie may not surprise everyone, but it remains an enjoyable watch.

Picture yourself receiving an invitation to join your ex-girlfriend and another one of her exes at a remote cabin in the woods— the plausibility of such a scenario becomes a valuable asset. However, if, like me, the idea of engaging in rifle hunting alongside two individuals with whom you have a less-than-ideal history seems unwise, you might find Sawed Off challenging to fully embrace. Nonetheless, Jon and Frank, the two exes, manage to set aside their differences and form an unlikely camaraderie with Marjorie. The cabin, adorned with hunting paraphernalia, also displays mysterious symbolism on one particular wall, adding an extra layer of suspense to the narrative.

Urban Legends and Myths (That Just Happen to Be True)

The three characters find themselves reunited but choose not to acknowledge the gravity of their situation. Jon’s subconscious desires grow concerning. They are mostly unsettling dreams involving Marjorie. This adds a layer of complexity to their relationship. Meanwhile, sparks still flicker between Frank and Marjorie. Sawed Off is set against the backdrop of an ominous woodland, and the story could have taken a dramatically different turn.

Marjorie’s cabin exudes an aura of mystery and darkness. Adorned with enigmatic symbols and containing an arsenal of firearms, it becomes a source of concern. Despite claiming ignorance about the cabin’s secrets, Marjorie delves into a captivating account of its folklore and haunting tales, further entwining the characters in an intricate web of intrigue.

The surrounding forest has a veiled history, whispered in hushed tones. Gathered around the crackling campfire, captivated by her storytelling prowess, Marjorie shares a tale steeped in a bygone era. In her haunting narration, she reveals how the once thriving habitat teemed with diverse fauna, basking in an abundance of life. However, the cruel hand of time and the relentless depletion of resources cast a shadow over these woods, awakening an unsettling rage within. As sustenance dwindled, the forest resorted to a sinister bargain with the gods that presided over it. An eerie pact was struck, permitting the consumption of unlimited food, but only if the price was paid in the form of human flesh. Such was the bleak destiny that befell those who sought refuge, as the forest embraced a newfound appetite for the macabre, leaving no soul unscathed.

Time Loop Movies

Unfazed by the bizarre turn of events, Jon and Frank embark on their woodland adventure. And just when you thought communication was still a thing, Jon impulsively aims his rifle at poor Frank and the shit hits the fan. The rest of Sawed Off is an erratic and chaotic-filled middle where Jon and Frank kill each other over and over again. The trio discovers more about the cabin and in turn, become more and more suspicious of each other. They also find they are trapped in their location and that all roads out lead to the cabin.

The special effects are entertaining with plenty of imagination used for kills with rifles, chainsaws, and knives. The “Sawed Off” movie is a pleasant time passer that is an easy one-time watch.
