You’ve got to love Uncork’d Entertainment for giving it a red hot go every time and not being mean and saying no to the little guy. Directors Rhys Frake-Waterfield and Scott Jeffrey are at it again. Unbeknownst to Mother of Movies at the time of watching, Firenado is another film these filmmakers have done that we watched alongside The Killing Tree, The Mutation, and Crocodile Vengence with one or the other at the helm of the title. This time writing credits go to Tom Jolliffe (Jurassic Island.) This is the cream of the B-Movie arena and generally, many of these films score under a rating of 5 out of 10.
The film opens with a rather apparent miniature-modeled scene of a plane going into a tornado. Firenado then attempts to wire in an eccentric Dr. Devlin who is about to execute an extreme weather experiment. One that requires a drone, a van, and some assistants. The aim is to see if they can get close enough to a twister to get the drone inside it. In doing so Dr. Devlin thinks he will be able to control a tornado. Of course, that’s not what happens. Things go awry however when they lose an assistant, the drone, and then the cyclone catches on fire and heads for the hills.
Firenado, It’s A Twister
Not content with simply being a self-inflicted disaster movie, Firenado decides to add some thieves to the mix. As the news picks up word about the dust devil running rampant and mowing down whatever is in its distinctly precise path a local gang decides an on-fire superstorm is a perfect time for robbing a mobster called Pierce Moore. If you’re a connoisseur of accents I think you should pay close attention to Toby Wynn-Davies’ attempt at a Southern one.
For some reason Firenado has Dr. Devlin and his team, Anna and Helena spend a lot of time driving around in a car to warn people of their impending doom. When a trashy daytime soap like The Bold and the Beautiful does green screen car pursuits better than seen in this movie, filmmakers should have considered giving them a different way to get around. Bikes might have been more plausible. Each time the crew enters the vehicle it becomes more and more obvious why the windows are covered with posters and flags as they pretend to drive places.

The firey tornado gets around too. It demolishes houses and a gas station with remarkable restraint. As Dr. Devlin and his lackeys barrel in to warn homeowners they are met with lovely one-liners like this;
And this is despite everyone within spitting distance being able to see the typhoon waddling toward them. Somehow people still die as they hurl remarks like “rubbish” shortly before it burns them alive.
There is a major clash with the aforementioned robbers, Dr. Devlin, and his crew. However, it does involve the car they pretend to drive being put into “hyperdrive” like in Back to the Future to get away, so it’s best not to mention exactly how this one ends. Oh, wait.
