The Ghosts of Monday stars Julian Sands (Warlock). As of January 2023, the esteemed and loved actor went missing, and as of the release date for the title, January 23rd, there is still no sign of him. The news eventually reported his death on 13 January 2023 after finding out how he died. This sad news leaves the 6 upcoming movies he stars in could be his last. In The Ghosts of Monday, Sands plays a part in a television filmmaking team investigating the paranormal. Their next show for Ghosts of the Old World is the prized and extremely haunted Grand Hotel Gula.
The Hotel itself has a sordid history, which is explained rather nicely with flashes of moody dark clips. Its background ties in with the title of the film The Ghosts of Monday, with 100 people being murdered in it on the 53rd Monday of the year in 1990. The Grand Hotel Gula has new owners who are responsible for reaching out to the show with the hopes that televised ghosties might bring back some guests.

Is “The Ghosts of Monday” a Good Movie?
Mother of Movies is always nervous when a film cites more than three writers attached to it. The Ghosts of Monday has five writers, and it shows. The narrative never truly sticks to one idea, and unfortunately, in this instance, the result is not of the red herring variety and instead feels clumsy and erratic. Early reviews so far in 2023 and after its premiere at the 2022 Frightfest film festival, complained en masse about unconvincing performances. The title holds only a 3 out of 10 rating on IMDb.com.
On the other hand, viewers who enjoyed the Italian giallo feel of the thriller and horror movie were much more impressed. There were a lot of comments from both sides about The Shining that made an appearance from time to time.
The Ghosts of Monday shines brightest in its cinematography. However, the storyline jams ghosts, monsters, ancient demon gods, and cults into the hotel, and it just loses its fit completely. Gore-hounds might like the sudden climactic scenes of stabby-stabby carnage that ambles its way onto the screen, but even then, the tension is lacking despite relying on familiar tropes to get there.
The Ghosts of Monday is rated
2.5 no one is getting out alive out of 5
Julian Sands’s presence in The Ghosts of Monday now carries a weight far beyond its immediate narrative. Known for his captivating turns in films such as A Room with a View and Warlock, Sands embodied a rare blend of elegance and quiet intensity that made even the most spectral roles feel grounded and human. His disappearance in January 2023 during a hike in Mount Baldy, California, and the confirmation of his passing later that year, have left a tangible absence in the cinematic landscape.
Watching him here is a reminder of the irreplaceable craft he brought to the screen, a career shaped by fearless choices and a voice that could inhabit poetry, menace, and grace with equal conviction. In The Ghosts of Monday, his work becomes a final echo; a piece of film history that now feels like a farewell whispered through the frame.
