Trim Season kicks off with an extraordinary horror queen cast. The title includes all your favorites like Alex Essoe (Midnight Mass), Bex Taylor-Klaus (Hell Fest), Bethlehem Million (Sick), Juliette Kenn De Balinthazy (Evil TV series), and Ally Ioannides (Synchronic.)
If the cast doesn’t excite you, perhaps the fact this movie is centered around these low key people scraping together some cash by harvesting a bumper weed crop will.
Trim Season opens with a jolting dose of violence, setting the stage for an unforgettable horror movie. Picture this: an enigmatic woman meticulously trimming marijuana, each snip echoing with anticipation.
The atmosphere thickens as blood spills. It’s a very violent and great beginning that preludes the danger so it can lurk in the background.
The story swiftly transitions from this gruesome scene to besties – Emma and Julia, inseparable and lazy following the trail of a new way to make money. Restless and dissatisfied, they embark on a night out with friends, determined to cast away the shackles of negativity and put the sizzle back in their fizzle.
Cannabis Jobs During Trim Season
In their quest for quick cash, Emma and Julia meet James, a generous and charismatic individual looking for trimmers for his upcoming weed crop. Intrigued by the promise of a good time, and a way to pay off their debts, the friends eagerly leave with James for a secret destination.
However, James has ulterior motives that slowly become apparent as he introduces them to other women connected to his operation. Suspicion arises as Emma and Julia, along with their newfound companions, gather at a designated meeting spot. Something feels off, and the air is thick with suspicion.
As James departs, leaving the women to their own devices, an unsettling feeling takes hold. The farm owners, headed by Mona and her sons, become the group’s new hosts. Strange conversations and peculiar interactions with the family leave Emma and Julia questioning their decision to trust James.
Amidst the odd circumstances, the work is undeniably straightforward, and the food quality is exceptional. However, a sense of unease lingers as Emma and Julia try and figure out the true intentions of the job they are doing and who they are doing it for. Trim Season hits all the right beats of tension.
Pruning vs Trimming Your Weed
Narratively the title moves along with an easy rhythm despite having three listed writers. Personally, when I see more than two listed writers for a feature film I assume the worst. Collaboratively I feel like more than two gives way to an uneven storyline. But props to Trim Season’s writers (and subsequently also its stars Bethlehem Million, Alex Essoe, and Ally Ioannides.) I was invested from the first quarter of the film and couldn’t take my eyes off the screen for almost the entire run time.
Trim Season is a solid production. There is undoubtedly an unpredictable aspect to this bloody ode to all things Mary Jane that was enjoyable. Its theme works in tidbits and anecdotes around the cannabis lore that establish a new kind of dread.
The characters were diverse in “Trim Season” but too, and in a way that was refreshing instead of annoying. Subsequently, this added to the whole elevated horror feel the film had.
There are some great special effects in the final quarter that I liked as well. All I can say about this title is that it is worth seeking out. And you don’t have to be high to watch it. It’s not that kind of movie.
