The Brooklyn Horror Film Festival (BHFF) proudly announced its full program for the 2024 event, taking place from October 17-22. Every screening unfolded at Nitehawk Cinema’s vibrant Williamsburg and Prospect Park locations.
BHFF rolled out an impressive lineup of films and events, highlighted by a special screening of Larry Fessenden’s acclaimed “Habit.” Furthermore, the Leviathan Award Ceremony celebrated the illustrious career of this remarkable filmmaker.
Opening Night Films – Brooklyn Horror 2024
The festival launched with a lineup fit for any cinema conossoir beginning with the highly anticipated NY premiere of “Dead Mail.” Created by the brilliant duo, Joe DeBoer and Kyle McConaghy. These filmmakers challenge perceptions. If you relish the idea of having your mind twisted and turned like Sunday morning eggs, this film is definitely for you.
Exorcismo: This North American premiere stood out as a remarkable highlight, complemented by retro screenings of “Vampyres” and “The Blood Spattered Bride” in stunning 35mm.
North American Premiere at Brooklyn Horror Fest
Custom: Directed by Tiago Teixeira, this gripping body horror flick left no viewer untouched. “Custom” is a masterclass in tech-sploitation, compelling audiences to reconsider their next clandestine viewing choice.
Grafted: Representing New Zealand, Sasha Rainbow showcased “Grafted” at the festival. This film stands out with its exceptional storytelling, presenting an intense popularity contest filled with unexpected twists. Where “The Substance” explored youthful appearances, “Grafted” boldly delves into the extremes of social acclaim.
Generation Terror: Directed by Phillip Escott and Sarah Appleton. This documentary boldly explores the evolution of horror at the turn of the millennium. It reveals how the genre has transformed into the chilling excellence we enjoy today.
World Premieres
House of Ashes: Directed by Izzy Lee.
Psychonaut: A queer sci-fi adventure that pushed boundaries.
Spotlight Titles
Animale: Directed by Emma Benestan, this film was the centerpiece of the festival. It received rave reviews for its unique storyline and compelling performances.
The Rule of Jenny Pen: Starring Geoffrey Rush and John Lithgow, this is the one I most want to see.
