Viral Movie, A Good Outbreak Story
‘Viral’ is a sci-fi horror film directed by Ariel Schulman & Henry Joost. One of my favorite virus outbreak movies & where to watch.

The Viral movie is an apocalyptic hidden gem about a virus and is one of the best virus outbreak movies ever. It takes place in a small town where Emma and Stacey live. News reports suggest an outbreak is taking place. Suddenly the town is in lock-down and their parents are stuck on the outside. Will they survive the infection or become part of it?
Viral Review, Will it be Contagious Viewing?
I have watched a lot of outbreak films mainly because I’m a big zombie fan. If you are looking for a gore-filled blood splatter film filled with mayhem, this is not your movie. If you like films with explanatory storylines and neat and tidy features then you will definitely get your money’s worth.
The opening scenes have a class being taught by none other than Emma and Stacey’s father Michael. He’s a teacher and is giving a science lesson on parasites. Weirdly he covers the topic of BotFlies and Toxoplasma in a true-to-life description. If you don’t believe me — Google ‘botfly extraction’, and you will see a whole thing you can never unsee.
The virus doing the rounds here is pretty cool, really well done and entirely believable. Maybe it wouldn’t wipe out the planet if it were real but it could certainly do some damage. Add to that, a government conspiracy where it’s all over the news but the general population is kept relatively on a need-to-know basis and one could see how it could get out of hand rather quickly.
Viral has some subplots included and I really liked them. It gives it more of a drama feel than an apocalyptic one but I loved the relationship between the two sisters and Emma and Evan. I’m plot-driven when it comes to movies and even though this one features a few overly coincidental moments, I still bonded with each of the main casts. I found Emma’s portrayal of her character extremely endearing and I’m a big fan of Analeigh Tipton who plays Stacey.
Summing up the quality of this movie with viruses
To sum up, there are parts to this that were minor infringements to the overall enjoyment of the film, however, in comparison to many other stories of this ilk, this is a decent watch. So much so, that I rewatched it after having seen it as a new release back in 2016. I enjoyed it just as much the second time as I did originally and even picked up on a few small details that I hadn’t noticed the first time.
