Train to Busan Director New K-Horror HellBound

Just when you thought that waiting for the sequel for Train to Busan was going to make you burst at the seams, there is a new project on the horizon. Yeon Sang-Ho, the now well-known director/writer, is working on an adaptation with Hellbound. I have a video of the webtoon and information on casting for the new Netflix series. Let me tell you, it took some digging. I have literally been here for two hours looking for information on the original webtoon title. I always want to bring new information not just what is going around. But I found it, so read on.

As an update to this article, Mother of Movies has added a trailer at the end. Check it out and get excited all over again.

If you still haven’t watched Train to Busan you will not be ready for the highly anticipated follow-up Peninsula. And you certainly won’t be ready for the new K-horror adaptation Hellbound.

The webtoon series has 6 parts and will be launched on Netflix in 2020 as a drama series. Before Yeon Sang-Ho’s breakout title Train to Busan, he wrote the story for The Hell and had it illustrated by Choi Gyu-Seok. Choi is best known for his Korean TV series Awl (Songgot.) He also has another popular webcomic called Gimlet.

What Will Hellbound Be About?

Humans can banish people from a man-made hell. As the supernatural phenomenon takes hold, society is unsure whether this alter universe is a good thing or a bad thing.

In an interview with Korea Joongang Daily, Yeon talks about collaborating with Choi two years ago over beers. Together they began the comic derived from the animation and expanded on t Yeon’s original storyline. His ambition for the new webcomic story centers on rational and irrational thinking processes from society’s views between their belief systems. Do we believe in God or not? Fans of The Hell animation decided that the new story was a prequel, but in the interview, Yeon explains he is trying to construct a new universe. If the series goes well, hopefully, another season will follow.

Train to Busan & Story Inspiration

The inspiration behind Yeon’s stories is born from a combination of fantasy and his own views, feelings, and experiences.

Casting for the new series has been confirmed and the lead will be played by Yoo Ah In (Burning.) Alongside him are Park Jung Min, Kim Hyun Joo, Won Jon Ah, Yank Ik Jun, and Kim Do Yoon. These names were confirmed by articles floating around popular Asian websites.

The Original The Hell Animation, Watch

Hellbound the Netflix series is going to be made from a webtoon called The Hell. Lucky for you I found a video of the original animation and it’s even got subtitles! I was extremely excited to locate this so, you’re welcome! The series will be produced by Lezin Studios. For the webtoon, I can tell you, I found that as well, however, I can’t find a translator for the strip itself. If you know of one, drop me a message on my Facebook page.

As of September 2, 2021, we now have a trailer for Hellbound. Check it out below.
