Kriya Wants To Initiate You With Its New Trailer & Poster

Kriya premiered at Fantasia Film Festvial 2020 Accord Equips

Sidharth Srinivasan of Reel Illusion Films (Soul of Sand) and producers Tejash Shah of Accord Equips Pvt. Ltd. (Headhunter) and B. S. Narayanaswamy (Court) have announced their newest Hindi language horror and fantasy film Kriya. Premiering at 2020’s Fantasia Film Festival Kriya will not only initiate you into the realm of its dark and blood-filled trailer, but the filmmakers also want to share some first-look images as well.

The story follows DJ Neel and Sitara who are showcasing a club set one night. Neel can’t take his eyes off Sitara and suddenly finds himself obsessed. That same evening an invitation to accompany Sitara to her house leads to a shocking discovery. Her dying father is present as her family keeps a vigil around him. But Sitara’s father is gagged and bound, a scene which horrifies Neel.

Indian customs denote that only the son can perform the last rites. As the night wears on magic and rituals form a torrent of sin, death, and bloodshed. Neel feels like he has walked into a nightmare of his own doing, desperate to escape and unable to do so. But what if more than just patriarchal customs and religion are at work? What if something far more evil has been discovered in this family. How far will Neel go to break free?

Kriya Trailer 2020 Releases in World Cinema Horror

Watch the trailer for Kriya from New Delhi filmmaker Sidharth Srinivasan. The first horror film he has made since 2010’s Soul of Sand which was selected for the acclaimed section at TIFF and Rotterdam when it first screened.

The trailer gives a brief glimpse into the seduction of the film as a whole. Visually stunning and cunningly creepy, Kriya will draw you into its web and entangle you into its melodic hum.

It’s also startlingly transgressive. While the film is vibrant with stark imagery and an amusingly dark sense of humor, KRIYA is very much a work of confrontational art. One that subverts Hindu ritual traditions and shrieks against its debasement of women in clever and compelling ways.

KRIYA is a strange and wondrous nightmare odyssey of ritual magic. It demands to be met on its own terms and rewards the curious with unexpected charms. Light a candle and prepare yourself.
