To Your Last Death movie

The cast for To Your Last Death initially caught my attention. This is a horror animation from director Jason Axinn. The adult cartoon story stars William Shatner, Morena Baccarin, Ray Wise, Bill Moseley, and, Damien Haas to name a few. Granted it’s only the voices of these actors and actresses but it’s nice to sit back and know the performances are in good hands. Mother of Movies doesn’t normally go for animated films.

Especially when compared with ones flooded with fancy cinematography like the Netflix Love, Death, and Robots series. To Your Last Death is a blend of 2D animation with a graphic novel aesthetic. The style is characterized by bold colors, sharp lines, and a somewhat edgy, comic-book look that enhances its dark themes and violent content

Self-Asphyxiation Because You Like Choking So Much

To Your Last Death takes you on a solid ride and it’s the story that will sway you. A father who wants to punish his children within the confines of a game. Horror tropes galore feature in this circle of adventure as Miriam wakes up in a mental health facility. A woman with black hair and retro sunglasses which she never takes off tells her she has the chance at a do-over. She is alive and all of her siblings are dead.

Miriam’s father has set up specific tests for each of his loving children Kelsey, Ethan, and Colin. Each of the games pertains to its specific vices. Kelsey likes to cut herself, Ethan likes self-asphyxiation, and Colin well, I’ll let Colin be a surprise.

Animation – It’s Still Horror Just in Cartoon Form

To Your Last Death is more akin to a Japanese Anime—a series of stills where aspects and movement are created simplistically. Nevertheless, the story for this particular 91-minute movie is amazingly coherent. It’s humorous in a tongue-in-cheek way. It is deploringly gory in a Saw franchise meets Happy Death Day type scenario. The characters all have unique and intricate backstories that are so edgy, that you’ll smirk and scoff at the sheer meanness of the premise.

If you’re going to watch one horror cartoon in 2020, you should choose this totally awesome movie. It also comes with a side of torture, all in fabulous 2D comic book graphics.

The Voice Of Morena Baccarin Said This About Working On To Your Last Death:

“What drew me to this project was how dark it was. This idea that we can be finger puppets, that somebody could be up there, wreaking chaos in our lives… It’s obviously a fantasy world. It’s always fun to do something completely unrealistic. At the same time, it plays with themes from reality. I enjoyed this character because one could say she’s evil — she’s doing these terrible things — but she’s really just doing her job. It’s not about emotion, and it’s not about being mean or terrible to people. It’s about entertainment, and in a weird way, I thought it would be really fun to attempt vocally to do that.”
