Faceless 2021 Thriller Movie Review Asks Who Am I?

The Faceless movie was released on DVD on March 2nd and on digital platforms on February 16th, 2021. An indie production with plenty of grit, gore, and questions as it follows one man, George after he wakes up in a hospital. Covered in bandages and with no memory of his past, George has to rediscover ” who am I?” as he learns to live with his new face. Opening scenes show George is not on the up-and-up and after losing a large sum of money at a dog fight is chased by two scary-looking individuals. If you are a lover of unique, interesting, and thought-provoking thriller movies, then Faceless is all that and more. Sure there are a few moments when you’ll ask yourself a couple of why’s.

There were also some moments for me, where filling in the gaps caused some minor plot holes to crop up. But all this is forgiven by the fact, production is on par with many big-budget movies, performances are excellent and effects are gruesome enough to have you look away from the screen.

“No matter the face that looks back, you are you.”

Discovering the New You in the Faceless movie

Starring Alex Essoe as Sophie and Brendon Sacton III as the pivotal character George, the Faceless film cleverly keeps you in the dark for a lot of the storyline. Very few things point to which way the story will eventually go. And we like that.

Once George realizes he has been given a face transplant and is semi-recovered he is provided with counseling meetings to attend and sent on his way. A lot of what happens in Faceless is given a brief brush-over. George is shown looking at photos, watching explanatory videos on aftercare, and reintroducing people to his new face. But George can’t remember anything. Details of what happened to him and how he became to be in the hospital are explained by those he knew and the doctors and nurses who worked on him.

As George falls back into life as he knew it, strange things begin to happen. He constantly feels like he is being followed and what’s more, he begins to believe someone wants the face he was given… back.

Faceless did become somewhat confusing at times over the conundrum of whether George is really George but that just made the film all the more interesting. Mother of Movies did go back and rewatch a few pivotal scenes when the finale became slightly ambiguous. But for those that want to know my take on what happened and why scroll down for a short, Faceless movie ending explained section.

I Challenge You To Be You

Overall, Faceless was definitely entertaining and utilized a great approach to both its storyline and the face-swapping rhetoric.

Also, a credit to the film is the score. Classical music during violence and surgery is always a good match.

I give Faceless

Faceless Movie Explained

For spoilers and explanations on the ending of the Faceless movie, see the below spoiler section.

FACELESS EXPLAINED

At the end of the film, George is seen confused as the orderly, Bruno tries to tell him he is in fact, Dr. Klein. Bruno was also seen earlier when George returns to work and is taking out the rubbish. Bruno is the one who is following George.

As George explains that it was Sophie that injured Dr. Klein and tries vehemently to get him to remember who he is, Sophie wants him to forget. Here’s why. The watch is of particular significance as what I think happened is, Dr. Klein took Eik’s watch when he killed him. He did this because he was in love with Sophie. Sophie realized this when George pointed out that Dr. Klein was wearing his watch in the photo he saw.

I Think I Love You

At the moment before Dr. Klien kills Bruno, he whispers, “I think I love her.”

Dr. Klein took Eik’s face after Sophie burned his face. Sophie can’t help but love the face that is now on Dr. Kelin but hates the man under it.
