Blood Fest 2018 Movie poster

Two similar movies in 2018 were Blood Fest and Hell Fest. A horror festival as the backdrop for a horror movie… I’m in. Watch the trailer for Blood Fest and if you haven’t marked this to watch for Halloween, add it to your list.

What is Blood Fest About?

It’s Halloween and what better time of year to get truckloads of people all in the same place for a festival? This year’s Blood Fest is hosted by a well-dressed, enthusiastic showman. The story follows three kids, who know their horror movie one-liners like the back of their hands. How they fare with killers infiltrating their favorite movie festival of the year is another story.

The premise then immerses itself in a realm of theories about horror movies and the entire story is underpinned by it. Dax grows into a horror fanatic fanboy and his dad, of course, is the guy who believes horror is the root of all evil. Horror is the reason that society is the way it is and makes a wrinkly face at anything horror-affiliated. I must say, Dr. Conway, as Dax’s dad is one of the highlights of this film.

I loved his relaxed and calm demeanor and his mission to tell the world that horror movies are something to be beaten down and not championed. Something I will never agree with but I’m sure the non-horror appreciators are represented by his solid character portrayal.

Review for the Bloodfest Movie

The opening scenes are of mom and son watching horror movies on Halloween. Dripping with subtle cheesiness is the dialogue and the fact that Mom is killed by a random intruder in a mask. Just like many horror movies really.

Dax’s adoration for horror comes from his wanting to keep his mom’s spirit alive. He works in a video store, has a healthy horror collection, and is obsessed with attending a local horror festival called Blood Fest.

The Casual Horror Fan Will Like Blood Fest

Most of the Bloodfest movie goes along swimmingly. It’s certainly got some cheesy moments combined with some sketchy CGI special effects. The jokes, while amusing, weren’t laugh-out-loud funny. Its writer-director Egerton plays the main lead, Anthony Walsh and by gosh, he is fairly fabulous. I have no idea how the film only manages to remain at half-mast when he has a clear idea in mind. His role is somewhere between an emcee and a horror version of Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005.) He doesn’t have the signature clothes or the top hat but he is the evil puppeteer for all its gory details.

Is Blood Fest a Good Movie?

Blood Fest is the type of movie that has you constantly thinking about other horror movies you’ve seen. A lot of them. The ideas are in no way original in any way and in fact, take a bazillion concepts from so much other stuff it almost took on a spoof-like atmosphere. But without the spoof. For the most part, the narrative has a serious undertone. It wants you to think about and debate which came first; the evils of life or horror movies. Which one influenced which? The second half dives right into fantasy and introduces zombies, vampires, clowns, and bad guys all controlled by high-tech science stuff.

More importantly, Bloodfest is not a bad movie. However, it’s not going to rock your world. What it does do is give you a bunch of characters. Of course, some of the cast are annoying and some are not. Then it combines every theme and every ending of every horror movie you can think of and makes a film out of it.

Blood Fest Film Vs Hell Fest Movie

On the surface, the two films look very similar. Additionally, the premise for the Blood Fest movie is the same and the poster art is somewhat similar. But Blood Fest is a horror-comedy rated 18+. While both films have centric violence and gore, Hell Fest is a little more serious about the killers and murder. Hell Fest was released on 28th September 2018 so if you want to watch a movie like Blood Fest, definitely give Hell Fest a red hot go.

If you need more slasher horror films, Mother of Movies has quite the collection. Watch any of these titles next: Terrifier 3 (High gore horror) | Dead Teenagers (Psychological slasher) | Tarot (Supernatural Slasher)
