To catch a predator in the original movies, Arnie was needed. Ok, so he wasn’t the Terminator in the 1987 model, but Dutch and his team certainly had to put in more effort! Boy oh boy, what a shock, to see that the modern predator really wouldn’t have been much of a match if it went head to head with the version I knew and loved.
The elusive alien with razor-sharp teeth and hunting skills doused in determination. The ferocious stealth machine is ready to rip your spine out for unknown reasons. A tall and vicious killer was only taken down with the use of nuclear weapons.

Catch Me, Predator, I’m Falling
This stands well on its own. I know, I know, but hear me out. The previous films are nothing like that. How I feel about the 2018 film The Predator is mostly based on how I felt about the original and what I wanted from this new movie. I know Disney had nothing to do with the production of this flick but it’s almost like they did. I felt like it was Disney-fied to the point I expected marshmallows to fall out of the sky and a rainbow to appear.
This movie is fine but the Predator and his mates from space, don’t belong in this film. There were so many jokes crammed into the narrative it was hard to maintain a serious tone. The thing comes off as trying to be a comedy. Had another life-form been put in its place and not been associated with the Predator premise, I would probably have been much happier.
Predator Sense
Without a doubt, this film was painted with a Ghostbuster-
Someone decided to Elmer Fudd-ify it too. Do you know that lead dude from the tech place? (Traeger was his name) Well, he let out a giggle that should only be followed by “I’m hunting wabbits.” I have no idea whether this was intentional or not but again it let down the serious tone of being hunted by a space alien.
Even though Casey’s rude bits weren’t shown, the point of having her strip while chaos and massacre were surrounding her was kind of stupid. She swayed from being a gun-toting heroine to an idiotic foot-shooting dog savior. I liked that she had a personality but she fits in well with the rest of the bus.
The Predator is Elusive and Fierce
They took a premise where the predators were elusive and fierce and turned them into nothing more than guys in suits. For example, people were clinging to spacecraft getting sliced up by forcefields and it didn’t even register on the gore-o-meter. No spines were ripped out, and more importantly, there was no real hunting done here. Just lots of running and jokes and kids not getting killed by Predators.
Obviously, it was great they brought the story into the present day. And to clarify, I didn’t mind the oddball bunch of comedic characters attached to an esteemed soldier. However, these characters belong to a different creature — NOT my Predator.
I give The Predator 2018
2.5, not the Predator, because the Predator was cool out of 5
Where is Doc Savage?
Another key point is, according to our sources, the role of Doc Savage has been cast with Dwayne Johnson after a rumor it would be awarded to Chris Hemsworth. Aside from this, nothing is happening and production has stalled.
Shane Black
Additionally, Sony wants the film set in modern times and its writer/director Shane Black disagrees. Shane wants the timeline set in its original 1920’3 era. I guess we will just have to wait and see who wins the arm wrestle.
