LAST RADIO CALL follows a missing Officer, David Serling. This type of found footage film sees one person embarking on a mission to solve a scenario that no one else seems to care about. The police have stopped investigating, and the case of Serlings’ disappearance has gone cold. But his wife wants answers. His wife Sarah wants closure and a year later hires a film crew to try and solve the mystery. Serling went missing during a routine call-out inside the Yorktown Memorial Hospital. Sarah has uncovered bodycam footage from the night he went missing and slowly unravels a history of hauntings inside the ramshackle and now abandoned building.
Isaac Rodriguez’s found-footage horror film, LAST RADIO CALL released on January 14th on Terror Films Channel and On Digital/VOD on Jan 21.
Found Footage Movies 2022
The Last Radio Call immediately made me think about a beloved cult classic, Grave Encounters combined with almost any other found footage film where someone deep dives into a mysterious disappearance. What was pretty interesting in the first half, slowly devolves into tedium toward the middle. Sarah finds evidence of other events that add impact to and allude to a very sinister force. However, in between, there is no stake of investment in the characters we are introduced to. The film crew isn’t people we get to know. Sarah’s search for her husband is as good a motive as any for her ride-or-die enthusiasm but apart from that, there is nothing else to love about her.
Of course, there is always a reason to stick around for the finale in a film like Last Radio Call. Especially if you enjoy movies with subtle creepy anecdotes and a story arc that points to some dark and evil spirit, that’s exactly why I stayed with the horror movie. There is some great tension mounted follow through in the final act that delivers what you came for. Performances from the key cast give their best. Some additional side pieces like newsreaders and witnesses undo some of the better moments.
Overall, I liked Last Radio Call, but I didn’t love it. It has some great slightly unnerving scenes that make it watchable but sadly not memorable.
