The Privilege Das Privilege film poster

Netflix 2022 TV movie “Das Privileg” arrived on the platform on February 9th, 2022. What happened in the film? The Privilege film ending is easy to walk through. By the end of the review, hopefully, Mother of Movies will have filled in any gaps you might have missed in the storyline. Perhaps The Privilege isn’t the most poised version consisting of an inherited family conspiracy. But it’s still enjoyable and worthy of a one-time watch.

Parents Guide for The Privilege 2021

In a similar vein to films like What Lies Beneath and Amazon’s The Manor, The Privilege starts with a seemingly banal brother and sister. Finn (Max Schimmelpfennig) is being babysat by his sister Anna. He follows a noise and finds her with a knife and blood pouring from an open wound on her face. After a weird supernatural flurry of excitement, Anna dies when she falls off a bridge.

Flash forward and Finn is older. He attends weird appointments with a psychiatrist and is in love with a girl in school called Samira. A lot is going on for Finn throughout the storyline. Usually, this works to create a diversion from where the audience should be paying attention to. Here in The Privilege, it simply causes the horror movie to be hard to follow. It feels like there is too much going on.

About mid-way, Finn takes drugs at a party and finds himself hallucinating. He begins to think he is either going mad or that something supernatural is underfoot. Feeling lost, Finn visits his grandfather in the hospital for advice. The Privilege leaks vital clues the whole way along. Finn’s dead sister Anna claimed that the only way to save themselves from a supernatural entity was to die. In addition, his twin sister Sophie is seen being offered to an old lady in a ritual. Finn finds it hard to believe and initially decides it’s all in his head.

Finn finally takes stock of his world when more strange things begin to happen. He even sees his father look to be in cahoots with the local authorities. After dissecting one of his prescribed depression pills and finding a weird fungus inside Finn knows he decides to investigate. What I did like about The Privilege movie is that utilizing an “us versus them” mentality is a neat way of building dread for key cast characters. All of a sudden everyone is a threat. Finn is smart enough to enlist outside help and after talking to his science teacher goes to see a local expert called Eliska.

The Privilege film eventually lets the audience in on the mystery of what’s been going on. Most of the teenagers in Finn’s circle are adopted. Under the guise of the therapeutic company Trondthal, the anxiety and depression pills are a cover for an ancient cult. This cult needs replacement bodies to house the demons they follow as they age.

Elders in the group adopt children to achieve this and by the time they turn 18, they are ready to transfer into their new younger selves. Then they get to live on eternally. The payoff for the cult members is that they have some pretty neat powers. We see some when Sophie uses telekinesis to move a coffee cup into her hands. Some members can call on superhuman strength and have the ability to summon the demon to kill as well.

The Privilege Film Ending

As the cult and the demon hit their stride, the trio of teens has a threesome. Finn, Samira, and best friend Lena find the time in between running for their lives to commit to seeing each other naked. This gives the girls renewed enthusiasm for rescuing Finn. Finn gets captured by the cult and prepared for his entry into the demonic transfer of his grandfather. They join forces to destroy the lair and take off to escape the clutches of the demon and its followers. Or do they? Right at the end of The Privilege, the trio is seen arriving in a new town only to discover their parent’s corporation reaches further than they thought.

Depression and anxiety pills are a great way to spread the fungus spores required for the cult to obtain new bodies. Thinking they are safe, the camera pans to Samira as she turns towards the audience. It is then revealed she has already been possessed and will likely lead the others to Lena and Finn.
