Metal Lords movie poster

The Netflix film, Metal Lords is the perfect teen angst comedy! This delightful story is not just for heavy metal enthusiasts but for everyone seeking a cute movie with a solid gooey heart. Don’t let preconceived notions hold you back from enjoying this gem. If you have a soft spot for heartwarming movies like Dinner in America or narratives that teach the value of kindness, “Heavy Metal Lords” is a must-watch. Hunter and Kevin, are two ordinary teens on a quest to conquer the Battle of the Bands, as they immerse themselves in the world of legendary rock bands like Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Testament, and more.

Metal Lords is not a film like the dark “Lord of Chaos” or the historical “Metalhead.” In those films, the tone and atmosphere are more about the psychological journey and anger. Here in the lighthearted world of teens on a mission, less is more. Think, warm and fuzzy Metal Lords, and a sentimental line about valuing who your friends are as well as the perils of being bullied. It’s about finding love based on values rather than popularity.

For those turned off by the idea of a movie full of thrash metal and angry singers, fear not, there is hardly any metal music to be found. When music is played, the duo has initiated a cellist instead of a guitarist and the result is darn cool, to say the least.

Parents Guide to Metal Lords 2022

The Netflix music and drama film, Metal Lords, takes a delightful approach by focusing on cuteness. It rarely delves into emotionally hard-hitting themes. Instead of tackling dark and uncomfortable subjects, Metal Lords provides an enjoyable and easily digestible viewing experience. The story revolves around Hunter. He is a young musician who has a not-so-perfect single father. Meanwhile, Hunter’s best friend Kevin grapples with the realization that their friendship might be holding him back. Ultimately, “Metal Lords” delivers a heartwarming narrative. It reminds us of the power of kindness and positivity in dealing with life’s challenges.

Nevertheless, Metal Lords is completely enjoyable as a popcorn flick. Performances are easy-going, likable, and relatable. Kevin is the type of character that is more bark than bite. Apart from spending a large amount of money on his dad’s credit card and getting into fights, he really isn’t a bad kid. When Kevin’s father decides to punish this rebellious teen by putting him into a psychiatric facility, the experience is entertaining rather than depressing or scary.

Is Metal Lords on Netflix a Good Movie?

I don’t think Metal Lords is the type of flick to be taken seriously when it comes to what heavy metal music means and represents. A film that is simply “Bill and Ted’s” music-infused approach to the way we approach life and friendships as well as just how much the things we obsess over can mean to us.
