The Lincoln Lawyer On Netflix Decrees Crime Solving and A Do-Over

I am always up for a new crime and drama TV Series. The Lincoln Lawyer was released to the Netflix platform in May 2022 in most countries (HBO in the USA.) The Lincoln Lawyer cast is what immediately piqued my interest. With faces like Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (Perfect Strangers), Neve Campbell (Scream), Becki Newton (Ugly Betty), and also Angus Sampson (The Walking Dead) there is much to like. The first season of the show is based on one from a bunch of novels by Michael Connelly and another of the books has already spawned a film of the same name. The story follows a lawyer called Mickey Haller, who while down and out finds himself the beneficiary of legal practice.

The supporting cast forms a pretty good foundation for everything that Haller has going on. Neve Campbell plays one of his ex-wives, Maggie. She often shows up to give insight into what led to their breakup. Becki Newton plays another former wife, Lorna who slots in quickly to make up for the shortfall in running a newly established legal firm. Adding to the dynamic is Cisco played by Angus Sampson. He seems to have taken up with Lorna to make things reasonably uncomfortable but still amicable due to a friendly parting.

The Lincoln Lawyer Reviews

As a character, Mickey Haller is excellently portrayed by Garcia-Rulfo, making him a believable and likable man trying to overcome drug addiction. In his wake, his two ex-wives and daughter are all still heavily involved in his life. Early reviews saw the series combat a few negative opinions about casting for the lead. However, now these initial low ratings have been overtaken by a more accepting audience. The Lincoln Lawyer series is rated 7.1/10 on IMBD.com. Between the series and the film, The Lincoln Lawyer (2011) I can only assume the vast difference in casting for the role of Mickey caused some to be slightly put off. I liked both versions of Mickey Haller in equal measure.

The Lincoln Lawyer Plot

As a series, I loved that Haller had to contend with various elements while trying to get on top of his career. He spent a year out of work due to a surfing accident which subsequently led to a habitual drug habit. Struggling with everything, Haller finds out one of his old colleagues has been found murdered. It’s here that Haller finds himself on the receiving end of not only a chance at a do-over but he also gets all of this dead agent’s clients. With ten episodes in season one of The Lincoln Lawyer, there is plenty of sleuthing and courtroom drama to entertain. Add to that some excellent background personalities and I would have to say the show is a hit.

The case to solve revolves around gaming creator Trevor Elliot. Trevor is accused of killing his wife and her lover but claims he is innocent. Like any good series where there is a mystery to solve, there are clues that stand out as obvious and some that will be a surprise. In the Lincoln Lawyer, the results are fairly formulaic but for me, that just makes it easy to follow while still enabling me to guess who might be the killer. The narrative utilizes a character called Izzy (Jazz Raycole) to point out some key areas of Haller’s inner workings. However, I liked this aspect of the show and enjoyed the relationship between them.
