Mother of Movies “best movies 2022.” Without further adieu, here are the top ten best movies and where to watch them.
10. Bullet Train
This is the first action movie to reach Mother of Movies’ top-rated movies to watch. Bullet Train however was so much fun, I just had to include it. Bullet Train stars Brad Pitt as an assassin who has a reputation for being as unlucky as they come. Back on the job and known as Ladybug, he sets out on his assigned mission to steal a briefcase on a train.
Bullet Train is funny, expensive, and filled to the brim with twists, turns, and explosions. The title has a load of great cameos like Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds, Michael Shannon, and Channing Tatum. All these things combined guarantee a good time. The Bullet Train movie is streaming on Netflix in the USA and AppleTV in Australia.
9. Scream
Set 25 years after the last movie where Woodsboro housed a killer in a Ghostface mask, a new slasher is on the loose. From the original Scream in 1996, Neve Campbell and David Arquette have carried this series through an awesome franchise. There is always something smart and fresh in each of the films. And while the newest Scream 2022 doesn’t deliver a twisted dollop of originality that the first film served up, it definitely served up the enjoyment factor.
The Scream movie 2022 failed in developing characters that were worth remembering. However, because we have some of the original cast still in the story, sometimes we don’t need newcomers to get to know. Fans know they are fodder. And that’s what we like.
As a die-hard Scream fan, I was a little disappointed overall in the choice of the killer. It didn’t seem completely fleshed out. I wanted to see more of the original cast as well but Scream 2022 was still fun and worthy of a one-time watch until Scream 6 comes along.

8. Prey
Predator and its succession into a franchise is a heavily debated set of films. Prey is a movie that succeeds to champion its worthiness by bringing the story back to its roots. Prey’s main character Naru (Amber Midthunder) sets about connecting the universe created in the Predator movies and her own motivations in heroics. The past and the future collide in a spectacular vision of awesome visual effects and landscapes that don’t fit an alien species. Having a female-forward hero didn’t hurt the title one bit, and nor should it. Personally, I’m loving this pro-woman filmmaking frenzy and I hope it continues.
Prey is streaming on Disney+ in Australia/USA. USA can also enjoy Prey on Hulu.
7. Everything Everywhere All At Once
Not my favorite genre niche, Everything Everywhere All At Once simply kicks the butt of the adequate filmmaker. Writer and directors Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert must have been dizzy after putting this hectic and brain-numbing science fiction and action-adventure movie together. With a sliding doors mentality, Everything Everywhere All At Once proves you can level up on an amazing idea. 3 degrees of separation has never looked so nuanced as one woman shows that the Butterfly Effect might actually exist. Multi-dimensional universes, comedy, sadness, and epic martial arts choreography shouldn’t work in one story but it does.
This is a title that’s so hard to explain you just have to see it for yourself. Even if you think you aren’t interested in Everything Everywhere All At Once I promise, if you watch it you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
You can watch Everything Everywhere All At Once in the USA on many streaming platforms including Fubo, Showtime, and Direct TV as well as on Apple+. In Australia, the title is shown on Binge, Foxtel Now, and Prime Video.
6. Barbarian
Justin Long has a reputation for being killed, tied up, or tortured in horror movies. If you don’t believe me, watch any of these titles and see for yourself:
- Jeepers Creepers,
- Tusk,
- After.Life
- House of Darkness
- Lavender
- Creepshow: Night of the Living Late Show
Having seen all these films, when Justin Long appeared halfway through Barbarian in a sports car, I gave a warbled “Noooooooo!” Nothing good happens when Justin Long appears.
Air Bnbs have become popular as a setting for a spate of horror films. Not knowing the background of a neighborhood, who the homeowners are, or simply what might lurk in an uncleaned area should cause more suspicion than it does. Here that premise is used enticingly well. Red herrings galore, superb performances, and casting that defies stereotypical roles for the characters they play (except for Justin Long, poor Justin.)
The best way to watch Barbarian is to not know anything about the story. Barbarian is a must-see even if you don’t end up liking it. Did I mention Bill Skarsgård is also cast in this best horror of 2022?
5. Fresh is the Freshest Best Movie of 2022
It takes exceptional talent to reinvent the wheel. Fresh is the type of movie that just wants you to sit back and enjoy the fact that there are worse things than being single. A feature film directorial debut for Mimi Cave shows that whatever this filmmaker has on the agenda will be widely sought after.
Daisy Edgar Jones brings just the right dose of likability into a world where throwing caution to the wind is always recommended but rarely advisable. Fresh has a protagonist so charming that no one could deny his hospitable invitations.
The romantic and the psychopath together in movie history are as welcome as a slasher in a campground. Fresh gives as much as it takes, spends just the right amount of time with its characters and their motivations, and brings the bloody consequences along with it.
More than 56000 people rated Fresh on IMBd.com and it still has a rating of 6.7 out of 10. That’s pretty good odds if you’re looking for something to watch tonight.

4. Who Invited Them
Who Invited Them is not a film that the majority loved as much as I did. In fact, the general consensus on rating aggregator sites shows this black comedy horror directed and written by Duncan Birmingham not only flew widely under the radar but has so far achieved only a 5.5/10. The audience satisfaction on Rotten Tomatoes shows this was liked slightly more at 62%. So what didn’t people like about Who Invited Them? Some reviewers complained the title used lazy writing, some said there was too much talking and others said the final reveal didn’t play out effectively.
Best Movies Streaming Now
For Mother of Movies, Who Invited Them is part Funny Games mashed against The Perfect Host. The performances are great, the camerawork is steadfastly accurate and I didn’t mind the chatter. I found it created an upward journey in tension until the predictable but climactic hammer drops. Who Invited Them is streaming for free on Shudder and AMC+.
3. Violent Night
So a Christmas movie enters the best movies 2022 list. So what. Not everyone adored this Santa-inspired action and thriller movie with David Harbour at the helm, but I sure did. Neither perfect nor completely cohesive, this tongue-in-cheek narrative about Santa reminding the world he is real while trying to reinvigorate his own Christmas spirit was just the movie I needed in 2022. Violent Night drops movie references every chance it gets.
Christmas dies tonight!
Quote from Violent Night movie 2022
It includes cynical attitudes, obnoxious characters, and a heart so, stop your complaining and just know that this will be on a full rotation every year at Christmas time from now on. Violent Night is a film most people wanted but couldn’t believe they got.
Violent Night is available to stream on the Peacock Premium subscription service. It doesn’t have to be Christmas to watch it.
2. Halloween Ends
Halloween Ends has its haters. The iconic Michael Myers has been given a resting place as one of the most iconic bad guys in horror history. If you are a fan that is. But the loyal and those who disliked the Halloween franchise, in general, both had grievances with the last story in the series.
I loved Halloween Ends for allowing the fantasy that the story might continue with its reviled character in Corey. The scene created with Laurie baking in her kitchen and trying to find love is the backflip in a dream world we didn’t know we needed.
There was a lot of screen time given to characters who were not the monster which in turn gave viewers a front-seat view of what type of killer Myers is. We eventually learn what might actually motivate him besides just his long-suffering sister Laurie Strode. Instead of the rhythmic rhetoric, we are used to a stalk, stab, and stab again Myers is given a back seat.
There is enough schlock to remind those who love the Halloween franchise that Michael is just as capable of being remembered dead or alive. The town of Haddonfield will always be obsessed with him regardless of his presence. Whether Halloween Ends flows cohesively with the rest of the Halloween series is irrelevant. Halloween Ends finalised the Michael Myers legend like a compacted dead body with a bow tied around it.

1. X (2022)
I chose X as the best movie to watch because director Ti West not only made a great horror movie once but three times. His trilogy includes X, Pearl, and MaXXXine. Despite not seeing MaXXXine at the time of writing this list, I simply can’t fathom its failure.
X is set in 1979 and follows a tight-knit collection of filmmakers who are set to make an adult movie. They choose what they consider the ideal backdrop for their production, a remote farmhouse in Texas. Their hosts seem nice enough, but soon discover what’s happening on their property and seek to remedy the situation. As a horror movie, the title is viciously bloody every step of the way.
The cinematography is stunning considering some of the sets filmmakers had to work with. The story itself twists in various directions in the latter half of X which only heightens the tension of the film overall. The soundtrack is excellent to boot.
But most of all, the performance of Mia Goth in two separate characters doesn’t actually become obvious unless you are watching really closely and that is a highlight in itself. For a review of Pearl, visit this link.
