SLASHER TV Packs Horror Movie Tropes Into Jack The Ripper

Shudder streaming platform Slasher series Ripper

Season 5 of the “Slasher Series” on Shudder was a wild ride from start to finish. This time, they’re diving deep into the world of Jack the Ripper, but with a twist. Picture this: sex workers, fancy folks, and cobbled streets in Toronto, all while a creepy killer goes on the prowl. They’re calling this mysterious murderer “The Widow” because of their eerie black outfit and concealed identity. The first episode, titled “The Slaughterhouse,” aired on April 6th, 2023, on Shudder and AMC+. For more reviews of the series, check out this link Slasher Flesh and Blood.

After watching the first part, I was excited to see the second. This series reminds me a lot of American Horror Story. Just like AHS, each season introduces a new theme, story, and mystery to unravel, while also bringing back familiar cast members. The first episode introduces us to a character named Jack, who has a liking for harming sex workers. Within the story, he is commonly referred to as Jack the Ripper. In season 5 of this series, you witness firsthand the chilling encounter between the killer and the victims. Trust me, it’s not a pretty sight.

After watching the first installment of this anthology series, I was keen to see the second. The Slasher horror TV series reminds me a lot of American Horror Story, in that each season announces a new theme, story, and mystery to solve but carries over familiar cast members. The opening episode introduces a character called Jack who likes to slice and dice sex workers. Others within the narrative refer to him as Jack the Ripper. In Slasher: Ripper, you get to see firsthand what happens when a serial killer meets another defined serial killer. And it is not pretty

What Happened to Jack the Ripper?

The second episode, called “The Painful Truth,” premiered on April 6th. This season of Slasher features Kenneth Rijkers, the city’s cool investigator, who’s starting to put the pieces together. And let me tell you, just like the other seasons, this one has some seriously gnarly kills. We’re talking beheadings, scissors getting used in some super creative ways, and guts all over the place. Oh, and this mortician lady and a doctor are doing some surgical stuff that might make you cringe.

But season 5 of Slasher isn’t all about The Widow. Like most of the seasons so far, there is also plenty to digest within the storyline with side characters slowly moving up the ranks to reveal their sinister ways. Slasher: Ripper is off to a fine start. If you haven’t seen any of the other seasons of this dark and tormented anthology horror series, you can see all the episodes on AMC+ or the Shudder platform.

Two supporting characters are women living in a large home. With a penchant for punishment, they inflict pain in the face of beautiful things in a quest to look better themselves. With so many suspects it’s anyone’s guess who is roaming around under the mask hacking into people’s bodies.
