Welcome to Fairwood, a town plagued by hidden agendas and sinister secrets. In the small town, an evil force awakens on the eve of a historic milestone. As the town prepares to celebrate its 300th anniversary, the race for the next mayor becomes a battleground of ambition and power. “Founders Day”, is a slasher movie cinematic creation by the visionary Bloomquist brothers.
This time Carson and Erik bring us a political slasher hot on the heels of their campground slasher, “She Came From the Woods.” Mother of Movies has been a fan of these indie filmmakers since watching their first feature film release, “Long Lost.” So discovering Founder’s Day was actually the first movie they wanted to put out is a nice surprise.
Originally slated to be part of the renowned Project Greenlight, the fate of “Founders Day” seemed uncertain. However, the Bloomquist brothers prevailed, hoping that slasher fans would eventually get to see their way through the puzzle box of death and mayhem. With its intricate plot and intertwining suspense, horror, and betrayal, the film offers a reflection of society’s ills, urging us to confront the shadows lurking within our communities.
Can I Get A Plot Twist?
As the film unfolds, the town of Fairwood becomes a breeding ground for mounting tension and simmering animosities. The destruction of campaign signs becomes a harbinger of the chaos to come, mirroring the crumbling facade of civility. The streets are set ablaze with the fervor of competing factions, their passionate voices echoing into the night. In this inferno of deceit, darkness reigns supreme, and trust becomes an illusion.
The “Founders Day” film revels in revealing plot twist after twist with enthusiastic voracity. As the blood-soaked legacy of classic slashers merges with a venomous twist of treachery, the very essence of loyalty is just another opportunity to showcase yet another betrayal in the most unexpected corners.
The pacing and overall feel of the film vary at times. While there might be moments where the comedic edge and exaggerated reactions seem slightly out of place, I want to highlight that the Bloomquist brothers excel in crafting engaging dialogue. These occasional quirks do not detract from the film as a whole. Notably, the performances are commendable, with appearances from talented actors such as Catherine Curtin (“Stranger Things”) and Bloomquist regular, Adam Weppler (“The Cobblestone Corridor”), adding some fun moments to the storyline.
