The Possession of Hannah Grace

The Possession of Hannah Grace was purportedly hyped as an exceptionally terrifying film, but it turned out to be quite underwhelming. Despite its initial promise of exorcisms and demonic encounters, the movie ultimately fell short of delivering the expected chills and thrills. Even though it is set in a morgue, a setting that could have provided a perfect backdrop for a solid horror flick, it fails to live up to its potential.

I must admit, I find it rather intriguing to explore movies that delve into the realm of demons, angels, possessions, and the like. It’s fascinating to see how different individuals interpret and react to these supernatural concepts. While everyone’s beliefs and fears are subjective, some might find these horror-filled tales of spooks and specters to be humorous rather than truly terrifying. Personally, I don’t subscribe to the idea of a higher power that requires constant appeasement, but I do acknowledge that the universe might hold more mysteries than we can comprehend. After all, skepticism allows us to question and explore beyond the realms of faith.

The Possession of Hannah Grace, Is it Scary?

I understand that everyone’s taste in films is subjective, and my opinion may not align with yours. In my personal assessment, this film did not resonate with me. Initially, I gave it a somewhat neutral rating of 2.5/5, but upon reflection, I find myself being less enthusiastic. It’s possible that viewers who enjoy casual horror films may have a different perspective and find more enjoyment in it. Ultimately, I encourage you to form your own opinion and give it a watch.

The film only cost $5.5 million and it made $41 million back so I’m sure they had enough to pay everyone and buy something nice.

I found two background characters particularly intriguing in the film. Kirby Johnson captivated the screen as the cadaver, showcasing a commendable performance. Nick Thune’s portrayal of Randy, the ambulance driver, was a character that could have been explored in greater depth. Despite being underutilized, Thune brought a sense of warmth and enthusiasm to the role. Additionally, Jacob Ming-Trent’s portrayal of Ernie, one of the security guards, left a lasting impression. Although his screen time was limited, Ming-Trent’s presence and dedication to the character stood out among the rest.

When it comes to performances in films, I usually appreciate exceptional talent or find certain aspects less appealing. In the case of Shaye, she tends to portray similar characters throughout her filmography, albeit with subtle variations. I found her distinctive head gesture and delivery style a bit off-putting and stiff. However, it’s important to remember that acting is subjective and everyone has their own preferences. Shaye’s style didn’t resonate with me personally in The Possession Of Hannah Grace.

Was it Creepy, It’s Set In a Morgue?

The Possession of Hannah Grace includes all sorts of demonic shenanigans. Forget about those run-of-the-mill possession flicks with creepy demons hiding in cupboards. Nope, this one takes it up a notch by featuring demons lurking in morgues and climbing walls like they’re auditioning for a Spider-Man role.

Now, I must admit, these types of movies usually make me a tad uneasy. After watching The Possession of Hannah Grace, I can confidently say that I slept like a baby that night. No need to leave the lights on or avoid hanging my foot from the bed like a paranoid acrobat. This movie couldn’t even ruffle a single feather on my terrified soul.

The story itself lacks the depth required to do it justice. It falls short in delivering new and intriguing scares, opting for the same tired tricks. Not only that, but it fails to provide any background or context about the featured demon. While some level of mystery can be effective in horror storytelling, in this case, it hampers the overall impact. A successful tale in this genre often relies on a combination of tension-building, genuinely chilling moments, and a well-crafted backstory to amplify the creep factor. Unfortunately, this narrative fails to deliver on both fronts.

Movies That Are Too Generic

The Possession of Hannah Grace, overall, is a tired attempt, maybe a lazy attempt to stuff some creepy images into a soft tale. The film’s story centers more on Megan and the death of her partner, subsequent substance abuse, and a stint in a morgue than it does on an exorcism resulting in demonic possession. There is more dialogue about whether or not Megan took her ex-boyfriend’s Xanax than there is about Hannah Grace. The fact that Megan thinks she’s hallucinating for nearly the entire film doesn’t strengthen anything, it just makes her look incompetent.

For me, I’ll stick to “The Last Exorcism”, “The Devil Inside”, “The Conjuring”, and “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”, Thanks.
