Could “I’ll Take Your Dead” be considered one of the most frightening ghost movies? Films in the horror thriller genre are expected to deliver some scares. Did this one live up to that expectation? “I’ll Take Your Dead” boasts exceptional performances and a strong cast. The premise of a man responsible for disposing of bodies, with the added element of a daughter, creates a gripping narrative. However, did the film truly deliver on its promises?
The trailer hinted at intense suspense and supernatural elements, offering a chilling experience.

Chad Archibald Horror and Thriller Movies
The film’s writer/director Chad Archibald was nice enough to send me the movie to watch a little while ago. If you’re a fan of his other films The Heretics (2017) and, Bite (2015), then you might find yourself wanting to see this film as well. I must admit, I thought they were okay, but I wanted to see this film and find something that blew my socks off. ‘Bite’ was my favorite of the two.
I’ll Take Your Dead stars Aiden Devine (Suicide Squad 2017) and he is wonderful in this. His stoic character with a heart grates against his job description. William’s daughter is played by Ava Preston (Shazam!) who fits the role well. Somewhere between a hard-ass child who’s seen too much and a fragile girl who just wants her mom back.
Thrust into this twosome comes Jackie, played by Jess Salgueiro (The Boys TV series), completely by accident of course. Jackie is an unexpected by-product of the job William is charged with. As a result, her presiding role in the film creates a curveball.
If you are looking for this film to watch, I’ll Take Your Dead released in the USA and On Demand on May 3rd, 2019.
I’ll Take Your Dead Review
“I’ll Take Your Dead” has been categorized as a well-crafted horror thriller movie from 2019, and its trailer is expertly executed. The storyline revolves around the haunting of a house where bodies are disposed of and portrays tough-looking criminals taking a firm stance against an individual seeking to leave the business. Additionally, the trailer depicts a captive tied to a bed and a frightened young girl, further intensifying the chilling atmosphere.
In addition, the opening scenes for this were great and I do like a setup like this. William runs a disposal service for criminals looking to clean the slate of their activities. His daughter just takes everything on the chin and her father is ‘The Candy Butcher’ but, how he got to be awarded this moniker is never explained.
The trailer announces that one of the people being disposed of is not deceased and what follows is the repercussions of William trying to figure out what to do. Above all, performances are noteworthy from all players included here and Jeff Maher’s (Let Her Out 2016) stylish and dark camerawork is almost recognizable if you’ve seen anything of his previously.
The Candy Butcher
Despite The Candy Butchers’ foreboding reputation, the gangbangers that turn up on his doorstep seem to bully him. For someone with an army of two, where criminals turn up unexpectedly, he hides the money he earns in a jar in the kitchen. There doesn’t seem to be any type of backup plan for the small family, having taken up such a dangerous vocation. When some trouble does come knocking, young Gloria is left to her own devices and forms an attachment to Jackie. Jackie could be their downfall, she could easily be a killer. For someone who’s seen so much, Gloria fails to see the consequences.
Finally, when I watched this, I was slightly disappointed in the collision between drama and would-be horror. I guess it’s not the film’s fault I expected carnage and wasn’t given it. Instead, I was met with a heartfelt story of a father’s love and nothing of The Candy Butcher’s previous exploits. I was presented with an almost skewed coming-of-age subtext and a lesson in loyalty.
This film certainly has plenty to offer the right audience, but those looking for the scariest ghost movies, will not get what they came for. 28 Days Later website has another great review you might like to read.
