Clown 2014, a scary clown body horror movie

It” is the most successful of the clown movies to ever be released. You might be a fan of the original 1990 version. Alternatively, you may prefer the new shiny 2018 horror movie. Pennywise is the villain that comes to mind first for many. Clown 2014 is a body horror movie, and it’s good. The movie is a low-budget B-grade title that was made with just $1.5 million bucks. It took two years to appear for USA audiences, coming at a time when clown movies sure were popular. Around the same time in 2016, a series of strange events took place across the USA. These incidents also occurred in other countries around the world, involving clowns.

People dressed as scary versions of the red-nosed jesters created an epidemic of real-life fright for kids everywhere. Reports came in quickly to the police. These people were hiding in the woods, appearing in windows, or simply wandering around the neighborhood.

2014 Clowns

What if Pennywise from Steven King’s “IT” lived in modern times? The two clowns are from different universes. If the clown called IT updated his look, it would change everything. Suppose he didn’t live in a small town with open drains. Instead, he could live in a regional area with white picket fences. I think this movie could be a modern twist on a classic Steven King. And Kent came way before the popular Terrifer franchise was released.

Kent is originally placed in everyday places in full kit. Places like cars, a neighbor’s house, and a hotel. Sinister things in normal realms are very effective when done right. The film’s flaws are few, and the rest of the movie is unnervingly great. It’s the perfect prescription for writing a horror story where ordinary situations result in something nowhere close to ordinary.

Eli Roth, responsible for production here has spoken of the film’s inspiration for how the changes to Kent happen. Changes occur similarly to transformations in “The Fly”(1986). In “The Fly” Seth’s character translates well to Kent’s character. You can’t help but feel compassion for Kent even after he claimed his first victim. There’s an internal struggle between a man trying to remain who he was while battling the symptoms of a curse.

The camera doesn’t let you forget that Kent was once an ordinary man who worked in real estate. He loves his kid Jack (played by Christian Distefano) and works hard for his family. Sometimes scenes pan across his company’s advertising posters adorned with Kent’s face before he puts on the clown suit like looking into a broken mirror.

Not all the characters are likable, I didn’t care for Herbert Karlsson (played by Peter Stormare.) I felt his character lacked depth. He filled in the blanks for a backstory to the costume but more interesting themes weren’t explained. Herbert had clown-capturing contraptions set up. He experienced a rift with his brother. There were other things I would love to have seen included.

Is There a Clown 2?

On the negative side; some fight scenes that went on far too long felt like unnecessary filler. A couple of plot holes regarding the history of the suit, its whereabouts, and how to destroy it certainly made me think a sequel would be on the cards. As of 2024, I have found no evidence that any of these filmmakers have scripted anything for a sequel.

Overall though, this title is a menacing film that many felt went too far. For me, I thought the detail, dread, and mean-spirited curse were executed with steady hands and with great outcomes. Those in the USA will find it cheapest to rent with Google Play or YouTube. Of course, it’s also available on Amazon. It’s worth seeing if you appreciate low-budget fare and themes that push the boundaries.

Why is This Horror Movie Rated R?

This is not one of those clown movies that you want to watch with your kids. It has a lot of gore and violence. One scene takes place in a Chuck E Cheese. It was one of the coolest but also most disturbing things I’ve seen in some time.

Not only will you be subjected to the piercing screams of kids who are not having a good time, but the story is also about a dad. A normal dad, Kent, and his normal family throw a birthday party for their normal kid, Jack.

Kent is in the middle of his workday when his wife calls to tell him the clown they hired is a no-show. Coincidentally, he finds a clown suit and of course, puts it on. He will be the hero. The next day, Kent tries to take his harlequin suit off. He discovers he might just have to be a clown forever.

Does Jack (the kid) Die in Clown?

For those wanting a happy ending, Jack does not die in this film. Even if the story doesn’t end well for Kent, his kid survives.
