The Open House Netflix movie begins after the death of Logan’s (Dylan Minnette) father. His mother Naomi (Piercy Dalton) takes up her sister’s offer to stay in the home she is selling. Odd things begin to happen. What’s going on? Is this one of those bad Netflix Original movies? Yes, it is. Strangely The Open House cast was pretty solid, so what happened to the film?

The Open House Review
You move into a house with your mom. You’re sad. The house is big and you go exploring to discover a basement with a tunnel seemingly blocked off.
“So hey mom, this house has a basement with a blocked-off tunnel, know anything?”
Quote from The Open House
Not here it seems. Luckily the tunnel has no relevance. To anything. Don’t worry about looking into it, there is nothing to see here.
The relationship in Open House between Logan and Naomi has no chemistry. On-screen it looks as though they are supposed to be super close. This fact is confirmed when they cook together. It’s almost as though they just met and moved in together instead of as mother and son. I guess they are just supposed to come across as a stereotypical family however, seeing as nothing else happened to give the Open House movie some spark, some character depth might have been nice.
For a low-budget film that utilizes great scenery and atmospheric snow, the Open House movie failed at telling the story with any semblance of tension. How many times does the pilot light need to go out before you stop blaming the only other person in the house? You have a tunnel in your basement remember?
Open House movie is a thriller lacking thrill with bad dialogue and underused great ideas. Generic scenarios (I’m looking at you wayward Cops who do nothing) always die a slow and painful death. One day, cops attending a truly odd and out-of-the-ordinary scene will come up with better reasons to do nothing than blaming it on rascally neighborhood kids.
The Open House Ending
What a shame the final shot and end of the thriller movie was the only interesting part. There is something cool about a serial sneak hiding out in disused houses and running amok. The Killer in The Open House is never actually seen. If you didn’t see this movie right until the bitter end, you might have missed that the ending explains exactly what has been happening in the neighborhood. It clearly shows that all the strange events from within the house are the work of a serial stalker who randomly chooses homes for sale to target.
If you missed The Open House ending because you were asleep, that’s when we met the killer. Out of the camera’s shot and driving in a car. It’s only a moment but it explains what happened at the end.
