Rattlesnake 2019 Netflix and Campfire

Zak Hilditch is a talented Australian writer and director known for his work on another Netflix film “1922” (2017.) Hilditch returns with a strong horror movie, “Rattlesnake”. While the storyline may not deliver mind-blowing twists and turns, as a fan of curse-type narratives, I found pleasure in connecting the dots and unraveling the hidden layers of the plot. The Rattlesnake review covers many aspects of the film and, includes spoilers via an explanation towards the end and should not be considered spoiler-free.

The narrative follows Katrina, who stops while traveling. Her daughter gets bitten by a Rattlesnake and a mysterious woman appears to save her. Nothing is free in this world, however, and the woman demands payment for her services.

In the Netflix movie Rattlesnake, Carmen Ejogo delivers a compelling performance as Katrina. She portrays a mother driven to protect her child at all costs. Her on-screen presence is captivating, and she effectively conveys the emotional turmoil and determination of her character. The rest of the cast also delivers strong performances, adding depth to the story and enhancing the overall viewing experience.

In the later part of the movie, the supernatural entity in the form of the lady in the caravan takes on a more significant role. This mysterious figure exerts control over the victims it saves, forcing them to make difficult choices and face their deepest fears. As Katrina desperately seeks help for her daughter, she becomes entangled in a web of dark forces she cannot comprehend.

As Katrina delves deeper into the tangled web of the entity, she discovers sinister secrets and hidden truths that not only threaten her own life but also challenge her beliefs about good and evil. The film skillfully blends elements of psychological horror and supernatural suspense, in a way that is still satisfying.

The cinematography in “Rattlesnake” is visually stunning, capturing the desolate beauty of the desert landscape and enhancing the eerie atmosphere. The well-crafted suspenseful sequences, combined with a haunting score, further intensify the sense of impending doom.

Supernatural Movie Explained

In the film Rattlesnake, the mysterious lady’s motivations for saving Clara are not explicitly revealed at first. However, it is implied that she is a soul collector who needs a bargaining chip to acquire more souls. This theme is common in horror movies, where entities manipulate circumstances through curses, legends, and trickery.

Similar concepts can be found in movies like “Candyman”, “HeadCount“, and possession films, where supernatural beings exert control over the characters’ fates. In Rattlesnake, the entity is portrayed as an opportunist, demanding a soul in exchange for sparing Clara’s life. Clara, played by Apollonia Pratt, becomes a pawn in this twisted game.

Katrina, the protagonist, realizes that she has no choice but to comply with the entity’s demands. Desperate to find a solution, she attempts to expedite the death of a dying man in the hospital where she is located. However, she hesitates and fails to assist him, as his relatives enter the room and he passes away naturally. This unexpected turn of events leaves Katrina in a dilemma, as she faces the moral conflict of taking a life.

Rattlesnake Movie Ending Explained

Reluctant to kill just anyone, Katrina decides to spend time in a local pub, hoping to find a way out of the predicament. The movie delves deeper into the suspense and intrigue as Katrina seeks to outsmart the entity and protect Clara’s soul.

With an abusive boyfriend in her sight, she buys a gun and has time to go and practice shooting it in the desert without getting bitten by a rattlesnake. Her intended victim escapes and Katrina is left knowing she has only moments to save her daughter. She decides to kill herself to save Clara instead. The entity gives her a reprieve and a rattlesnake appears that causes him to fall off the rocks so she can kill him. Problem solved it seems. That was lucky indeed.

However, one aspect that slightly detracted from the overall experience was the lack of tension in certain challenging scenes. Additionally, a shift in focus toward Katrina’s pursuit of an angry man somewhat diminishes any mounting stress that had been building up. In a life or death scenario, the urgency of the situation is partially diluted as we witness Katrina practice shooting during the final hours of her personal debt.

It seems that the Rattlesnake movie ending leaves us with a tantalizing question: Did Katrina’s escape from the town come at a higher cost than she anticipated? As she leaves behind a soul for the mysterious woman, the repercussions become increasingly eerie. Clara, her daughter, can perceive the deceased in the guise of hitchhikers, and she even sketches a picture of this enigmatic apparition. Is it possible that this woman is merely disguising herself and moving on to the next town? The intrigue deepens, leaving us eagerly awaiting answers.
