Was This Music Video Awesome?

The lyrics concern depression stemming from fame and the effect the media has had on their personal lives. There is a decent amount of disconnect between the lyrics and the film in that the antagonists look reasonably happy in their home while readying themselves for the dinner guests about to arrive. Candles adorn the table and Drew is seen in the background pouring himself a bloody mary.

The short film that accompanies the You Owe Me song has some Dexter (TV Series) influences with the plastic sheeting adorning the room. Living Among Us, a film that also has a bunch of vampires masquerading as the family unit reminded me of the story within the music video; Drew makes eye contact with the camera to give it a smirk. The final scenes depicting severed limbs and blood spray take the video into a slow-motion killing wonderland.

Not only is the song extremely catchy, but the clip itself also does a lot in its short run time of just over three minutes. There is even a hint of comedy in that the lyrics talk about checking pulses. We all know vampires don’t have them which hints that Drew and Alex may find the scenario a little humorous.

The Chainsmokers Lyrics

You don’t know me
Don’t you think that I get lonely?
It gets dark inside my head
Check my pulse and if I’m dead, you owe me
If you’re lonely
Don’t you think you’re on your own
When it gets dark inside your head
Check my pulse and if I’m dead, you owe me
