On the Trail of Bigfoot: The Discovery Is A Stern Doco That Stalks A Hairy Sasquatch

On the Trail of Bigfoot The Discovery Documentary

On the Trail of Bigfoot: The Discovery is a 2021 documentary for the cryptid adventurer Seth Breedlove and his team. It’s not the first time Small Town Monsters has looked at the legendary Sasquatch. In 2019, there is another story about the folklore beast if you’re interested. Mother of Movies watched my first Seth Breedlove movie just recently and we covered the story of the werewolf. I liked the style and the anecdotal evidence-based footage for these shows. I’ve also always liked the idea of Bigfoot.

Do You Believe in Sasquatch?

But did this intensive dig into all things “giant hairy man” convince me that historians simply haven’t managed to prove their existence? That these creatures living and wandering around the dark forests? Well, yes and no. All things told I’m still on the fence. But I am more convinced today of the possibility than I was yesterday.

In “On the Trail of Bigfoot: The Discovery” the main difference between this and the other documentary I watched is this team includes smart people. Not just a bunch of people living in a town where things are sometimes creepy. Here, Seth has actual researchers. Sure, they might be referred to as “bigfoot researchers” but they use science jargon and refer to aspects of their investigation in a way that sounds official.

This search for the mythical ape-man lends itself to the idea that this crew is systematic in trying to prove Bigfoot is living in the Adirondacks. The logic behind this is to prove what the evidence says this is not. For example, if they can prove a noise is not something they know exists then they are closer to proving that the noise belongs to something that doesn’t exist. While voiceovers and one-on-one interviews tell convincing stories about first-hand experiences with the menacing yeti, these guys stomp around the thick forests looking at nest sites.

What Does Bigfoot Sound Like?

The noise samples were pretty cool though, I have to admit. I watch a lot of films on my big screen with headphones. This way, I get the full effect of scores and quieter effects. One of the researchers has been recording sounds and tracking commonalities in seasonal activity for many years. The documentary plays several sound bites that represent some of the things they have heard over the years. While this didn’t cement Yeti’s existence for me, the sounds were strange and eerie and sometimes sounded a lot like people whispering.

But back to the nest sites. The evidence shown here involves areas of the forest floor, within large sections of huckleberry brush. What these guys are looking at are flattened areas they claim to be Bigfoot beds. The idea behind this is that they think families of Sasquatch use military techniques that allow them to camp out from time to time. Unseen and undetected. They attest that the use of the huckleberry bushes is medicinal and that when the Yeti make these camps, they are probably within the birthing process and the berries provide much support for this. However, what made this sound a bit rubbish was that all the sites they came across were old.

On the Trail of Bigfoot: The Discovery

A lot of what was shown on screen didn’t look all that convincing to me. Just flattened brush. No one in the crew could prove it wasn’t grizzly bears lying about. They simply advised the nature of the nests was complicated. They said they were intricately layered. But they didn’t really demonstrate anything to substantiate that apart from saying it could only be made by something with opposing thumbs. And when they finally came across a site they said was new and was probably being built right now, one of the team wanted to bail.

Nonetheless, On the Trail of Bigfoot: The Discovery, is an enjoyable documentary. If you have never heard about Sasquatch nests, then Seth Breedlove’s latest foray into all things unproven is a must-see.
