“NOWHERE” On Netflix: A Thriller of Desperation and Survival
NOWHERE is a bleak new thriller on Netflix. One that delves into a dystopian future, reflecting on the reality of worn-torn regions. The setting rests upon the premise of refugees and their relentless fight for survival. In a sudden move from leaders, pregnant women, older people, and children are being taken from their families and removed. Within an alternate version of future Spain, a government faction known as “The Regime” tears the country apart. Mia and Nico are shown fleeing their country.
The plot of the tense thriller, NOWHERE plunges into the shadows of worst-case scenario situations involving human trafficking. Nico, played by Tamar Novas, and Mia manage to escape in a container bound for Ireland. The movie quickly unleashes a substantial amount of gun-related violence. Mia and Nico are separated by more armed individuals before Mia is isolated by more people with guns inside a container, completely alone. I was fascinated by the detail that the title idea is a word written on the side of the container Mia ends up in.
Amidst a series of incredibly unfortunate events, Mia’s journey unfolds in a single location. The transition from this idea to its main purpose as a tale of one woman’s harrowing journey lost at sea is just one of many deliberate plot devices in Nowhere that were extremely entertaining. Instead of pondering what I would do in a similar situation, I was captivated by the luck and resourcefulness of the lead character, Mia.
Best Survival Thrillers On Netflix
While watching Nowhere, around halfway through, I renamed Mia, MacGirlver. She was exactly what I imagine a girl-Macguyer to be. Additionally, I was distracted by the items that kept emerging from the steel box that kept Mia alive. An example of the pure audacity of the narrative is Mia standing on top of the box and attempting to use a steel rod as a fishing spear. Anna Castillo’s performance as Mia in NOWHERE is really what holds the film together. Whether enduring a water birth inside a flooded maritime container or sewing up her torn leg with computer parts, Castillo was not only convincing but likable. What’s more, the actress was given awkward dialogue too, so this achievement is compounded.
Nowhere is an intense survival film. One that serves as a poignant reminder of the harsh realities faced by people in similar situations around the world. However, this should not deter you from experiencing this engaging hidden gem. The movie cleverly weaves together elements of fantasy and suspense. It also adds a touch of escapism to the storyline with a good dose of anti-reality dust.
Nowhere might prompt us to ponder whether it is a tale of refugees or a testament to a parent’s unwavering determination to protect their children. Nonetheless, this stylized and mesmerizing thriller is certainly worth investing two hours of your time. Everyone is talking about this great Netflix movie.
