Vash ending 2023

IIf you’re a fan of cursed narratives, possession stories, or devilish plots, then Vash and Shaitaan are the perfect pair to dive into. Vash (2023), the original Gujarati-language horror film directed by Krishnadev Yagnik, laid the foundation for Shaitaan (2024), its Hindi-language remake now streaming on Netflix (Worldwide.) Both titles are streaming so it’s the perfect opportunity to compare these two Demon King tales.

Films like We Got a Monkey’s Paw and, Apartment 7A, are similar dark explorations of curses and devils. These films also delve into themes of control. Both narratives stemming from Hell’s management takeover follow suit, offering two distinct takes on a grim story of manipulation and despair.

Are Vash and Shaitaan the Same?

At their core, both films tell the same tale: a seemingly happy family embarks on a weekend getaway, only to find themselves ensnared by a mysterious stranger with dark intentions. While Shaitaan flaunts its bigger budget with polished visuals, Vash thrives in its raw and unnerving storytelling.

Janki Bodiwala stars as Aarya in both films, but the supporting cast differs slightly. The original’s antagonist, Pratap (Hiten Kumar), exudes immediate menace. He delivers an amazingly profound performance. It feels more impactful than Vanraj’s portrayal in Shaitaan.

Differences Between Vash and Shaitaan

While Shaitaan is afforded an extra 15 minutes of runtime and a higher production budget, Vash leans into its darker tone with less gloss. The original feels unfiltered, capturing a gritty atmosphere that complements its grim narrative. Shaitaan, on the other hand, opts for a more polished approach, making it feel slightly less terrifying despite its flashier presentation.

Key Plot Divergences

One striking difference lies in the portrayal of Pratap’s curse. In Vash, Pratap’s candy, a cursed treat that strips Aarya of her will, sets the wheels of terror in motion. The family’s playful pool scenes and harmonious bond are identical in both films, but Pratap’s sinister edge is sharper in Vash.

The endings also diverge significantly. In Shaitaan, the resolution hints at redemption and leaves some room for hope. In Vash, however, the story takes a much darker turn. Atharva, Aarya’s father, silences her by shoving scissors into her ears to save her from possession. Pratap disappears, leaving Aarya bed-bound and unhinged forever, a gut-wrenching finale that cements its place as the grimmer of the two.

Why Watch Vash?

If you’re a fan of unrelenting horror, this unique horror title offers a visceral experience that Shaitaan doesn’t quite match. Its unapologetic embrace of a bleak ending and its chilling antagonist make it a standout in the world of curse-driven horror films.

For those who found Shaitaan too polished or lacking in darkness, Vash delivers the sinister punch you’ve been looking for.
