Calibre Review

Calibre 2018

If you are looking for a hidden gem on Netflix check out this review of the dark and satiating thriller Calibre. The Calibre movie is a survival film that stars its director Matt Palmer. Not the footballer, the independent writer, and the director who is well known for The Gas Man 2014. The story follows two lifelong friends who head up to an isolated Scottish Highlands village for a weekend hunting trip. Nothing could prepare them for what follows.

Streaming on the Netflix platform and a directorial debut for Matt Palmer, Calibre stars Jack Lowden (Dunkirk 2017), Martin McCann (The Survivalist 2015), Tony Curran (Eat Locals 2017), and Ian Pirie (Upcoming Shafted 2018).

  • “Calibre” Movie Genres: Mystery and Suspense
  • Release: Calibre premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival on 22 June 2018. The film was released worldwide on 29 June 2018 by Netflix.

Calibre Netflix Movie Review?

This movie was absolutely phenomenal. Let me tell you, it delivered exactly what it promised – an irresistible combination of mystery and suspense that will leave you on the edge of your seat. From beginning to end, the film expertly weaves a captivating tale of cat and mouse, building up tension with each bad decision and emotional moment.

Clocking in at a sleek 101 minutes, the pacing is impeccable, ensuring that you get all the necessary information, experience all the intense emotions, and then wrap it up perfectly.

What truly sets Calibre apart is its limited cast, which adds an extra layer of claustrophobia to the already tense atmosphere. The contrasting beauty of the town serves as a stark contrast to the dark events unfolding within it. Throughout the movie, I found myself constantly questioning which side to root for, as every character is flawlessly flawed. Believe me, this is a Netflix thriller that absolutely deserves a spot on your must-watch list.

How the two friends become entangled in the ending is not rational, however, the way the story evolves is like the beat of a frantic drum. Opening scenes made me lean towards the two being fools but it still made for great viewing. I found Calibre quite enjoyable for afternoon movie time on a Sunday. The pacing is nail-biting and the performances are amazing.
