Shadows 2022, Is A Crime Thriller With A Plot Twist

Full disclosure, Mother of Movies is a fan of trashy daytime soaps. In Michael Matteo Rossi’s independent action film, Shadows 2022, at the forefront of the film is none other than Krista Allen. She features heavily in the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful as Taylor Hayes. It’s fair to say this taut thriller with plenty of polish had my attention when she appeared as a hooker called Jewel.

Of course, there are other recognizable faces among the cast here in Shadows; Rahart Adams (Pacific Rim), Francis Capra (Crank), and Aussie Vernon Well (Mad Max 2) also star. Add to that David Labrava (Sons of Anarchy), Eric Etebari (2 Fast 2 Furious), and Rachel Alig (The Cleaning Lady) and you have yourself a pretty fancy low-budget movie.

In the “Shadows” movie, we follow the journey of Cody as he confronts his past and navigates the challenging world of drug dealing. His mother, Jewel, reenters his life, expressing her newfound sobriety. However, she struggles to fully support Cody’s career choice, despite playing a significant role in shaping his current circumstances. Cody holds onto his aspirations, even if they may seem modest to others. Unfortunately, his latest purchase turns out to be stolen drugs, putting him in grave danger. The drugs he inadvertently possesses are highly coveted, with a unique formula that sets them apart. The powerful local group that owns these drugs is not willing to share their profitable secret, leading to intense conflicts.

Crime Thrillers With Plot Twists

Like any good crime thriller entanglement, there are always three degrees of separation scenarios. By the same token, the Shadows movie is no different. Not only is Cody splashing around stolen drugs but he then enlists the assistance of one of his mom’s call girls friends to show off to his douchey friends. To make matters worse, while he is busy making himself look good, Kingpin Nicholas sends out his best man Axel, and a few henchmen. They’ve been ordered to find Cody and make him dead.

There is a lot to pay attention to in Shadows 2022. However, unlike many independent feature films that come my way, writer-director Rossi pays attention to all the finer details. And we like that. There is a succulent twist in the proceedings. The action sequences are nicely executed too. More importantly, there is the bonus that on occasion some kick-ass body count kills do just enough to leave an impression. If you’re wanting an example, there is one scene where a particularly deserving character gets a very pointy stiletto heel to his heart. It’s a great reason to give up on life if ever I saw one.
